One hell of a season.
It can mean number of things. Not a lot of blogging that’s for sure. Record snowfall, bluebird days and too many celebratory beers after a good day on the hill. There was also the problem of designating a cameraman. Nobody wants to give up the first freshies to your mate just so you can film him enjoying it….that’s just insane. Let’s put it this way…you’re lucky for you own sanity that we didn’t get many shots. In saying that, we should probably head back next year to get some decent snowboarding photos, just so we can let the pictures do the talking.
We spent our season in Hakuba, which is on the main island of Japan, Honshu. On arrival we were greeted with a lovely Siberian cold front, which brought with it the fastest change in air pressure within the last 50 years. Let’s put it this way, snow fell sideways and there were 3 day storm totals pushing 2 metres. Nothing like being thrown in the deep end….literally. After a year without riding it wasn’t easy. The mountain had just opened up and we couldn’t see anything. The first time up on the hill we literally did 3 runs before cramping from having to lean back so far.
More photos, the odd video and a few stories worth telling still to come.
